Scientific background of DNA paternity test
The paternity test compares the DNA profile of the child and the presumed father. When the individuals being tested are biologically related, their DNA profiles correspond to each other at the points studied. DNA profiles consist of markers, which are known points in DNA.
The paternity test gives two possible results:
1) Paternity probability usually well above 99.99%.
2) Probability of paternity 0%, i.e. the person tested is not the father of the child (100% certain).
Our test analyses 20 markers, which provides additional reliability compared to the 16 marker test that has been the standard in this area.
Parties to the paternity test
At least DNA samples from the father and child to be tested are required for the test. If a DNA sample from the child’s mother is also available, the laboratory can eliminate her effect on the child’s DNA profile and focus on comparing the child and the father. However, the test may be carried out even if the mother’s DNA sample is not available. Our routine test will test the DNA samples of the father and child.
If there are more than one child or father candidate to test, you can choose these options at the time of ordering.
We strongly recommend testing all supposed fathers if they are related (for example, brothers or father and son). If this is not possible, you can test only one assumed father with extended analysis (in this case, select the 25 marker test).

The world’s most trusted DNA testing laboratory – Our collaborative laboratory is DDC, which has several accreditation certificates to tell about the high-quality work of the laboratory. The DDC is accredited by the American Association of Blood Banks (AABB), ACLASS (ISO 17025 certification), the American Society of Crime Laboratory Directors/Laboratory Accreditation Board (ASCLD/LAB), the College of American Pathologists (CAP), the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH), and clinical laboratory improvement amendments (CLIA). DNA testing professionals recommend a DDC laboratory(DNA Junction).
Our customer service is always answered by our expert Finnish staff – We are always ready to help you with any questions related to DNA testing.
