What is a gonorrhea test for home use?
The gonorrhea test is a rapid test for home use that detects antigens of Neisseria gonorrhoeae bacteria in a female cervical or male urethral sample. The qualitative result is read after 10 minutes. The test helps in the diagnosis of gonorrhea infection, but the result alone does not replace the assessment of a healthcare professional.
Who is the gonorrhea home test suitable for?
The test is suitable for adult women and men. Testing may be indicated if you have symptoms consistent with gonorrhea, have had unprotected sexual contact, or your partner has been diagnosed with or suspected gonorrhea. Gonorrhea can also be asymptomatic.
Possible symptoms include burning or pain when urinating, abnormal discharge, frequent urination, lower abdominal pain, and pain or swelling of the testicles. Similar symptoms can also be caused by other infections, so it is important to seek examinations if symptoms persist.
How is the sample taken?
The sample is taken using the sterile swab supplied with the package. The sample for men is taken from the urethra and urination should be avoided for at least one hour before sampling. The sample for women is taken vaginally in accordance with the instructions for use. The sample should not be taken during menstruation.
Read the package instruction manual completely before starting and observe the sampling, mixing, and waiting times exactly. The sample should be tested immediately after collection.
How is the gonorrhea test done?
- Allow the test cassette and buffer solutions to reach room temperature, 15°C to 30°C.
- Take the sample according to the instructions for use and treat the swab with buffers 1 and 2.
- Add three full drops of the extracted sample solution to the sample well of the test cassette.
- Read the result after 10 minutes. Do not interpret the result after 30 minutes.

How is the test result interpreted?
- Positive: both the C and T lines are visible. A faint T line is also interpreted as positive. Contact your healthcare provider immediately for confirmation of the result and treatment.
- Negative: only the C-line is visible. A negative result means that no antigen was detected or was below the detection limit of the test. Seek testing if the risk of exposure is significant or symptoms persist.
- Void: No C-line is displayed. Retake the test with a new test.
How reliable is the gonorrhea rapid test?
In the manufacturer’s clinical study, the diagnostic sensitivity of the test was 96.0%, diagnostic specificity 98.3%, and overall consistency 97.3% compared to the PCR reference method. What do I do after a positive or uncertain result?
