Calprotectin and Lactoferrin The rapid test is intended for the qualitative detection of calprotectin and lactoferrin in a human stool sample. Calprotectin and Lactoferrin The rapid test is used to diagnose and monitor inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) such as Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis.
Package Contents
The package contains the test cartridge individually packed in a hermetically sealed foil bag (which also contains a moisture-balancing silica gel bag), instructions for use for the test and a stool sample collection tube (including a tipstick attached to the cap) containing the extraction reagent.
Calprotectin
Calprotectin is a protein consisting of two calcium-binding peptides that make up 60% of the soluble protein of neutrophils. Inflammatory reactions in the intestine attract a large number of white blood cells, which release calprotectin into the intestine. Intestinal enzymes are unable to break down calprotectin, so it is eliminated with faeces and is therefore an excellent marker for diagnosing inflammatory bowel diseases (IBDs).
Lactoferrin
Lactoferrin is an important component of the immune system. It destroys microbes and is a key defense mechanism in newborns. It is also a glycoprotein derived from neutrophils, enters the intestine in the same way as calprotectin and is detectable in both faeces and intestinal washing fluids. The fecal lactoferrin test has proven to be a sensitive method for detecting IBD in children and for guiding the diagnosis and treatment of IBD in both children and adults.
This Calprotectin and Lactoferrin Rapid Test is a CE marked medical device and intended for use by healthcare professionals. The test is equipped with a English user manual. It is important to follow the instructions and interpret them correctly. Tests have not been studied in home use.
