terms of DNA testing

A person giving a DNA sample for the provider of service (Testerit) for testing must sign his/her aproval with posted sample. In these terms are information of why the test is done, what is limited and propable consequences. These terms complete with the usual terms with delivery and are both relevant. These terms are always valid when a DNA sample is sent for the provider for testing.

1 Test sample material

1.1 The test is done when following terms are fulfilled:

All information that have been asked for is supplied with the sample.

All instructions for taking the sample, handling the sample and sending the sample have been followed.

The sample quantity and quality is as the laboratory have requested.

The person giving the sample is over 18 years of age and has signed personally these terms and thus given proof of identity as sample giver. Persons under 18 must have signed permission from guardian.

1.2 The provider can refuse to do the test if even one of the above mentioned has not been done.

1.3 If the quality or quantity of the sample is not enough for analysis even if all the above has been followed and done correctly we will contact sample giver and send material for a new sample to be taken without extra cost.

1.4 If the sample material has been lost or damaged during transport it will be replaced with a new without extra cost.

1.5 The provider is not responsible for loss or damage during transport but will send a new product without extra cost.

1.6 The DNA sample must be sent in the prepaid post envelope to the provider within six (6) months from receiving the material. Excluded from this is Bulgaria who will not accept prepaid envelopes to Finland. The coupon with the delivery may be valid less than six months. If the coupon is not valid anymore the sender will have to pay the cost for sending the sample.

1.7 The DNA sample will be analysed only for the test that has been ordered and will not be used for any other testing. What is left of the sample material will be destroyed in three weeks time from arrival to laboratory.

1.8 Do not send any other material than sample taken with the material that you have received for this reason. If something else than a sample taken from inside the cheek (as per instructed) the provider has the right to charge the extra cost from this (currently 150,- Euro) from the sender and there is also a risk that the analysis will not work.

2 Doing a DNA test and the results

2.1 The DNA test offered by the provider is for adding to knowledge only and scientific research but it does not replace medical advice, genetic advice or diagnosis or treatment.

2.2 The DNA test will be done according to good laboratory standards and quality. It is based on modern molecule-biologic scientific knowledge and this can change over years. This means that the result does not change even over time but the result can be interpreted differently. This is not likely as the scientific base is solid. In very rare cases the test result can go wrong as no analysis with biological material can ever be 100% reliable. The provider or the laboratory that the provider uses is not responsible for a wrong test result. The laboratory guarantees an accuracy well over 99% so the risk is almost non existential.

2.3 All ethnic groups have not been part of scientific testing that these test are based on. For this reason there is a slight risc that the conclusions from the test do not apply to all ethnic groups.

2.4 The provider is not responsible for anything that the test results may reveal or damage that this might cause.

3 Privacy

Test results are disclosed only to the sample giver who has supplied an E-Mail or post adress for this reason. The results are never disclosed to any third part unless requested by such a government agency who has legal right to do this. The laboratory will not know the identity of the person who is tested, they receive the sample as coded. The code and the person who is linked to the code are only known by authorised personnel with the provider and nobody else has access to these.
