Typical symptoms of norovirus disease are nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and abdominal cramping. For some, the disease also causes mild fever, chills, headache and muscle aches and general fatigue.
Noroviruses are a major cause of intestinal infections worldwide and are characterized by explosive, workplace- or residence-specific disease epidemics. Already 10 viruses can cause a disease that is transmitted very easily through food, drink and human contact. In particular, it is combined with uncooked edible vegetables, such as frozen berries from abroad. The infection is usually caused by feces and norovirus diarrhea is also easily transmitted from one person to another. The virus also spreads through vomit fumes. The virus easily sticks to the surfaces that the sick have touched (door handles, shopping carts, light switches, etc.). The virus remains infected for several days.
The incubation period of an acute disease is 24-48 hours, but it can break out even after 12 hours. The disease is usually mild but, if left untreated, can cause death in young children and the elderly.
The test kit includes test cartridges individually packaged in hermetically sealed foil bags (including a moisture-leveling silica gel bag), a test documentation system and, for each test, a faeces sample collection tube (including a quick-release hook on the cap) containing the extraction reagent.
This product is CE marked and tested by healthcare professionals. The test is equipped with a Finnish user manual. It is important to follow the instructions and interpret them correctly. Tests have not been studied in home use.
